RENT RECOVERY OFFICER (PART TIME) - Residential Lettings
Location: South Woodford, E18
Salary: £22,000 per annum

Rent Recovery Officer required to manage arrears cases, support tenants, arrange repayment plans, and progress legal action where required while protecting income and sustaining tenancies.
A Part Time Rent Recovery Officer is required for a busy property and housing management operation based in South Woodford. This position focuses on arrears control, tenant support, benefit coordination, and legal progression. It suits candidates with social housing or housing association experience who are confident managing complex arrears cases and working with vulnerable tenants.
What You'll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities):
- Monitoring rent accounts and identifying arrears at an early stage
- Taking prompt recovery action in line with policy and procedure
- Managing arrears cases from first contact through to resolution or legal action
- Supporting tenants with Universal Credit claims and housing cost elements
- Applying for Alternative Payment Arrangements and direct landlord payments
- Completing affordability assessments and setting realistic repayment plans
- Preparing documentation and evidence for possession claims
- Assisting with court processes and hearings where required
- Liaising with Housing Benefit teams and local authority departments
- Progressing Discretionary Housing Payment and hardship fund applications
- Coordinating with bailiffs following possession orders when necessary
- Maintaining accurate case notes and account records
What We're Looking For (Skills & Experience):
- Background in rent recovery, arrears control, or housing income management
- Experience within social housing, local authority, or housing association settings
- Knowledge welfare benefits
- Understanding of landlord and tenant legislation and arrears protocols
- Experience preparing cases for legal action and court submission
- Confident handling sensitive conversations and negotiating repayment plans
- Strong written communication for notices, reports, and case records
- Good numerical accuracy when calculating arrears and adjustments
- Comfortable using housing management systems and Microsoft Office
- Resilient approach when managing challenging cases
